HTMT ratio above 0.90

Questions about the implementation and application of the PLS-SEM method, that are not related to the usage of the SmartPLS software.

HTMT ratio above 0.90

Post by NRECUERO »

Hi,
I have a doubt: i have just 1 HTMT ratio above 0.90 (Teo et al., 2008). The ratio it has is 0.95.

What can I do?
Option 1. Delete 1 of the constructs.
Option 2. check if there is some reference that maintains a ratio of 0.95. (ANY REFERENCE?)

Thanks in advance

Hi. Although, it is on SmartPLS4, the techniques remain the same.

#SmartPLS4 Series 14 - Demonstration | How to Resolve Discriminant Validity Problems? Learn How to solve Discriminant Validity issues/problems through a practical demonstration on a real world dataset. The tutorial will help research scholars learn how to solve the common issues faced in establishing discriminant validity. The solutions are focused on using Standard Deviation function in Microsoft Excel and Cross-loadings. This session practically demonstrates steps in resolving discriminant validity problems based on a real-world dataset.

Dear Respected Professors,

I am also experiencing a similar issue with HTMT values greater than 0.90.
The HTMT ratio of two of my highly related constructs is around 9.3 (SmartPLS 4.0.9.2*).

While studying the current progress of PLS SEM, I found the following statement from an article authored by the greatest scholars in this field:

"When the constructs to be compared are conceptually similar (e.g. cognitive and emotional satisfaction), a threshold of 0.90 or even closer to 1 should be used." Reference: Marko Sarstedt, Joseph F. Hair Jr. & Christian M. Ringle (2023) “PLS-SEM: indeed a silver bullet” – retrospective observations and recent advances, Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, 31:3, 261-275, DOI: 10.1080/10696679.2022.2056488

It would be really helpful, if anyone of you could guide me how to interpret this or any specific HTMT threshhold (or thumb rule) for highly conceptually similar constructs, so that I can justify while finalising the analysis.

Thank you.
