Why there is a discrepancy in calculation?

Questions about the implementation and application of the PLS-SEM method, that are not related to the usage of the SmartPLS software.

Why there is a discrepancy in calculation?

Post by ttt »

Hi,

In Data Metric, I used "mean 0, Var 1" as the inputs for calculating my model. I think this basically transforms the data into Z-scores as the inputs for PLS calculation.

The report page of SmartPLS shows a section called Manifest Variable Scores (Used), which look like the z-scores.

However, when I use Excel to calculate the z-scores myself, I found that there is a discrepancy. For example, if Excel shows 0.711603, the SmartPLS shows 0.713783. Although not big, but noticeable.

I wonder why there is a discrepancy? Does SmartPLS use Z-score in the calculation? Or it uses a different formula?

Thanks.

Christina
