How to calculate f squared?

Questions about the implementation and application of the PLS-SEM method, that are not related to the usage of the SmartPLS software.

How to calculate f squared?

Post by YvonneM »

I am trying to calculate f squared (Effektstärke in German). So far, I have been doing the calculation by plugging in the different values in the formula I found:

f2= R2(included)-R2(excluded)/1-R2(incl.)

Is there also the possibility to calculate f2 with smartPLS directly?

I would be happy if someone could help me with my question. Thanks in advance,

Yvonne

I have got the same question, too! It´s very important!

So, is it possible to calculate f2 with smartPLS directly or not?

If not, how can I do it and where can I find the values of R2 included and R2 excluded?

Thanks!

You have to calculate the effect size by yourself! But it is very easy to do that.

Calculate your whole model with all variables and take the R2 of the target variable. This is your ‘R2 include’. Then delete the one variable which effect you will test on the target variable. Now, you have to calculate your model without the deleted variable. Thereafter, you have to take the R2 of your target variable once again. This is your ‘R2 exclude’. To get the effect size you have to calculate following formula:

(‘R2 include’-‘R2 exclude’)/(1-‘R2 include’)

I hope that help’s!
