Multiple Moderators

Post by Eva Sch »

Dear Community,

I need some support with the integration of multiple moderating effects into my SEM.
A simplified model of my SEM consists of several independent variables (X) and moderators (M) but only one dependent variable (Y).

X 1 --> Y
X 2 --> Y
X 3 --> Y
X 4 --> Y

The moderator variables M1, M2, M3 influence each of the 4 paths mentioned above, i.e. 12 moderating effects.

Do I have to insert all moderating effects within my model simultaneously, i.e. 12 interaction terms built by X1*M1, X1*M2 ... X4*M4?
Or do I have to create a new model for each of those moderating effects?

Thanks for your advice!!

Dear Eva,

In the next WiSt (August - only in German) will be an article about this topic by Matthias Schloderer and myself.

But a hint till then, you should check all moderation effects at the same time. You can also find a good example in the dissertation by Markus Eberl.

Best,

Christian
