Discriminant Validity of constructs

Post by viswadatta »

Hello All,

There is a bit of confusion regarding the calculation of discriminant validity of constructs. The best method was given by

Fornell, Claes and David F. Larcker, (1981), "Evaluating Structural Equation Models with Unobservable Variables and Measurement Error," Journal of Marketing Research, Vol. 18, February, 39-50

If two constructs C1 and C2 are considered, and their ave values are a1 and a2, their correlation being r, the constructs exhibit discriminant validity if a1>r^2 and a2>r^2. This is vasy to ascertain and use.

Convergent validity is seen when a1 and a2 are >0.5

Regards

Vivek

Hi Vivek,

if AVE > r^2 then AVE^0,5 > r

The second way is better because you could insert the AVE^0,5 in the diagonal of the matrix of correlations between LVs.
Best regards
