Questions about the implementation and application of the PLS-SEM method, that are not related to the usage of the SmartPLS software.

use of MV loadings

Post by viswadatta »

To improve cronbach's alpha, we remove those MVs which do not have sufficient outer loadings with the LVs. Do we also remove negatively loaded MVs along with the low loading MVs?

Can anyone also tell me how the redundancy values are interpreted in PLS?

ad 1: it might be good to rescale those variable to have all indicators in the same direction (content). If that's already the case, negative values do not matter in the measurement model (as long as the loadings are sufficiently high). However, positive and negative loadings in the measurement model may cause unexpected signs in the inner model.

ad 2: please check the literature (e.g. Tenenhaus et al. 2005 (viewtopic.php?t=21)

A high Cronbach's alpha is not at all a requirement when modeling with formative indicators, which PLS always does. The low loadings (or negative ones) are almost certainly because of multicollinearity among the indicators.
