why we call it PLS?

I hope it would be not a stupid question to ask "why we call it partial least squares"...what the name suggests? is it show something partially?

Hi,
Partial Least Squares (PLS), Why this name choice?
You know, because used Least Squares method for estimation.
Another name Projection to Latent Structure (PLS), because can estimate Latent Variable/Latent Structure (Unobservable).

Thank you Hengkov...can I ask one another stupid question, like SmartPLS uses Least Squares method for estimation then how about AMOS? please with thanks
