Big Sample size

Post by indrawati »

Dear all,

I understand that PLS is used for small sample size, but is there any paper in journal used PLS for big sample size ( ex 1000 respondents)?

Could you please inform me the paper and the journal?

Thank you
best regards

Hi Indrawati,

SmartPLS is not ONLY used for small sample sizes, but can ALSO be used for larger (or big) sample sizes. I used SmartPLS for >1000 respondents without any problems. At the same time, depending on the quality of your computer, you may consider the info in the following thread: viewtopic.php?t=1974

Good luck,

Hi Indrawati,

BTW: I do not have knowledge of a paper that addresses the maximum number of respondents.

Big size

Post by indrawati »

Dear Dennis,

Thanks a lot for the information. Is your paper published?

Could I get the paper? Because my supervisors ask me the example of paper which used PLS for Big Size.

I found 2 namely:
1. The effects of gender and age on new technology implementation
in a developing country Testing the theory of planned behavior (TPB) written by Baker, E.W., Al-Gahtani, S.S., and Hubona, G.S (2007).

2. Computer Self-Efficacy: Development of a Measure and Initial Test written by Deborah R. Compeau and Christopher A. Higgins (1995)

Is any body have the others paper?

Thanks

Regards

Hi iin,
PLS used large sample appropriate for simulation study (N = 1.000 - 5.000)
Rule of Thumb sample requirement for estimate PLS: 10 x your endogenous construct in the model (Chin 1998, 2010; Chin and Newsted 1999).

Hi, Dennis
Long time no see :-)

Hi Iin,

My paper has not yet been published, however when it is accepted for publication I'll send you a copy.

Hi Hengky,

Long time no sea ;-) indeed! Have been working on the above (amongst others). Good to see you're still active on the forum!

All the best,
Dennis

Although I guess that this question is answered already, I just wanted to give a hint so a paper using 13,074 respondents:
Carlos Padilla Bravo, Anette Cordts, Birgit Schulze, Achim Spiller: Assessing determinants of organic food consumption using data from the German National Nutrition Survey II. Food Quality and Preference, Volume 28, Issue 1, April 2013, Pages 60-70, http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.foodqual.2012.08.010

Hi,

If you have large case/observation, you need large bootstrap sample too for stable significance OK. Need some hours for run it, if you model complex.. ;-)
