deleting paths, but no change of path coefficients

Post by nicefreak »

Hello everyone,

I have not found the question in the forum, in case it has already been asked, I am sorry.

I have a simple model with four independent variables, two mediators and two final dependent variables. The path coefficients from the independent variables to the mediators and to the final dependent variables do only change to a very small amount, if I include the paths between the four independent variables (the paths between the independent variables, are significant).

I do not quite understand the reason, since I had expected a change. Including the paths, means that some former independent variables turn to be mediators, so there should be a change. Or am I wrong?

Could it signify that there is high multicollinearity between the independent variables?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Martin
