discriminant validity check between reflective and for. con

Questions about the implementation and application of the PLS-SEM method, that are not related to the usage of the SmartPLS software.

discriminant validity check between reflective and for. con

Post by gurkank »

When I was studying on a model which contains reflective and formative measures, I couldn't decide what I had to do to check discriminant validity(DV).
For example, there are Constructs which is reflective (A, B, C) and it is calculated AVE for them. I can clearly check DV between reflective measure (A, B,C). It is also clear that I will not cheek DV for formative measure (D). However, for A, do I have to check DV between A and D as looking at AVE of AV and sq correlation of A-D.

Thanks for your help.

Discriminant validity checking is often asymmetric and can lead to conclusions such as A is discriminant form B, but B is not from A.
Similarly, you could check reflective against formative measures, but not the other way around.

BTW: in addition to Fornell Larker criterion you should also check the HTMT criterion.
