Assess Convergent Validity w/Formative models

Post by renem »

In the book "A primer on partial least-squares structural equation modeling" 2e, page 140 discusses how to assess convergent validity using formative constructs. It indicates "we have to test whether the formatively measured construct is highly correlated with a reflective measure of the SAME construct." What does this mean?? Does this mean that I take the formative construct and copy it as another construct and reverse the indicators to reflective? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No. It means that you need to collect additional data for reflective items of the same constructs (or at least something like a global single item that represents the construct quite well).
