Reliability of the PLS questianire

Nunnally (1978) offered a rule of thumb of 0.7 of Cronbach's Alpha to confirm the reliability of the indicators in the Likert scale questionnaire over pilot Survey. As my model is in formative nature which built upon after comprehensive literature review and expert analyses is it required to do a pilot study to confirm reliability through Cronbach's Alpha estimation. My questions are (a) can Nunnally (1978) rule of thumb of 0.7 of Cronbach's Alpha is applicable to the reliability since formative indicators are not correlated and (b) Do I need to carry out pilot survey

Pilot studies are always great. But you do not need Cronbach's alpha for formative constructs. Please read this book on the model assessment: https://www.smartpls.com/documentation/ ... s-sem-book
