Can I use PLS instead of CB-SEM?

Questions about the implementation and application of the PLS-SEM method, that are not related to the usage of the SmartPLS software.

Can I use PLS instead of CB-SEM?

Post by yjchoi »

Hi all.

I have a simple question.
I tried to analyze my data with AMOS 21.
In my model, there is one latent variable with 2 items, which is same as a reference study.
But, I think that is causing a problem in the software.
Can I use PLS instead of CB-SEM only for that reason?
Because my paper is not for a prediction purpose, but rather it aims to prove a theory.
I know that CB-SEM would be an appropriate method in this case.
In fact, PLS results was good. (after deleting one item..)
Is there any published paper that I can reference to?
Any advises?

Thanks!

Please take a look here:
https://www.smartpls.com/documentation/ ... with-cbsem
https://www.smartpls.com/documentation/ ... and-cb-sem

And at these articles:
Often the factor model view of CB-SEM is transferred to the composite-based PLS-SEM method. A good start deal with this question may be to look into composites as proxies of the conceptual variables of interest:
In addition, here you find some argument when to use PLS-SEM:
  • Richter, N. F., Cepeda Carrión, G., Roldán, J. L., & Ringle, C. M. (2016). European Management Research Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM): Editorial. European Management Journal, 34(6), 589-597. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/ar ... 7316300925
And some argument that you don't want to use:
We hope that this info provides some orientation.
