T Value - One tailed (0.98) or Two tailed (1.96)?

Post by wonderahul »

Hello,

I have a couple of behavioural science hypotheses. All of them are of the following type -
i.e. X would be positively related to Y
which is essentially a one tailed hypothesis.

While testing with Smart-PLS, when I get the T-Statistic, isn't it that the path coefficient would be significant if the T-Value is greater than 0.98. At most of the places in the forum the T-value is mentioned as >1.96 for a path coefficient to be significant.

I would really appreciate your help.

Hello,

Used two-tail 5% or 10%, T-statistic > 1.65 or > 1.96 (standard many publication journal).
For one-tail used 1%. 0.98 very easy for eccept hypothesis and indicate type II error.

Best Regards,
Hengky
