Can I run a 2nd order measurement model only with smartPLS

Questions about the implementation and application of the PLS-SEM method, that are not related to the usage of the SmartPLS software.

Can I run a 2nd order measurement model only with smartPLS

Post by chloe15 »

Hi,

I appreciate your help regarding whether SmartPLS can perform the analysis I need, before I purchase it.
I attended a workshop and from what I learned, smartpls cannot analyze the pure measurement model, unlike the CFA (1ST step) in AMOS. Yet I read a paper in which authors ran a 2nd factor model like this following picture. The 2nd factor is not even measured by an indicator. How can I run the exactly same model in SmartPLS (just draw a picture like this one or I need some special tips)? Thanks so much.

Hi,

SmartPLS can execute it. Many approaches that you can use to test the 2nd order constructs, either using a repeated indicators, two-stage, orthogonalizing and so on.

I drew the exact same model but it seems I cannot "calculate". Is it because Smartpls 3.0 seems to still want my 2nd order latent variable with indicator(s)?
Please advise what I can do to run such a model. Thanks.

Could you suggest me a manual/book about how to run a repeated indicators, two-stage, orthogonalizing or methods? thanks.

Hi,

For a reflective- reflective 2nd order model

See my contribution in PLS handbook. SAGE
