Is it possible to use non-latent variables in PLS?

Questions about the implementation and application of the PLS-SEM method, that are not related to the usage of the SmartPLS software.

Is it possible to use non-latent variables in PLS?

Post by Chris »

I'm quite new to the PLS-topic, so I have a question, that might be very easy to be answered by advanced users...

Is it necessary to have only latent independent variables or does PLS also work if I have latent independendent variables AND non-latent objective variables that are objective (e.g. "number of employees" for the variable "size of the company")?

Would be a great help for me, I anyone could answer this question. And: If PLS does not apply in the case described, what other method could be used?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Just set up "Size of Company" as a latent variable with a single indicator; the two will be synonymous.
