Hi,
i'm using SmartPLS to analyse a survey/questionnaire which mostly consists of ordinal responses (Likert type). However, i have one question that asks respondents to rank options by priority. E.g.
'Please rank the following flavours by preference'
[*]Chocolate
[*]Vanilla
[*]Strawberry
[*]Lemon
[*]RumRaisin
[*]Cherry
I can recode the ranked responses to ordinal, i.e. translate them to six individual indicators with corresponding response values for the rank of the flavour. But i'm not sure if this is the right way to use them as indicators in PLS?
Or in short - how can ranked data be used for SEM?
Thanks
Daniel

Re: Handling of ranked responses
Ranked data is difficult in PLS. Generally, all strategies that you would use for regression analysis are also possible in PLS. However, I would not mix ranked and other types of data in the same construct (e.g., ranked indicators and Likert indicators).
