Struggling with the basics

Post by bsimpson »

Hello,

I'm new to SmartPLS. I watched the introductory user manual videos and read through the user manual. I successfully used the sample ECSI data file to create a model, but I'm unsuccessful with my own data file. I built the model construct with my data, but all latent variables are red and say that they are part of an incoherent graph.

Could you please help me learn what I'm doing incorrectly, or direct me to a manuscript that will help me through these problems?

Thank you

Hi Brett,

Look if your model has one of this situations:

- LV without indicators;
- LV without structural relations;
- Non-recursive model ( LV1--> LV2 --> … --> LV1 )

If the answer is yes, it must be corrected.

I hope this help you.

Formative Indicators are Red

Post by shalu »

Hi Prof.Bido,
I have the same problem as Brett. I created the model, but my second-order constructs are formative in nature and they are showing up in red color. When I click on them, I get the message "This latent variable has no indicators". What should I do?
Please advise.
Thanks,
Shalu

Hi Shalu,

you must repeat the indicators of the first order LVs in the 2nd order LV.
Use the search function in this forum to read more details and...

WETZELS, M. et al. Using PLS path modeling for assessing hierarchical construct models: guidelines and empirical illustration. MIS Quarterly, v.33, n.1, p.177-195, March 2009. [see p.181]

Prof.Bido,

Can I use the repeated indicator approach when I have one first order LV as reflective and the other first order LV as formative, and both together lead to a formative second-order construct?

Thanks,
Shalu
