Inner VIF vs Outer VIF

Hello All,

As far as I am aware of, VIF is used to assess the collinearity problem among the constructs in a model. However, as I have recently moved to smartpls 3.0, I can see that there are two VIF tables, namely, inner (related to items of each construct) and outer VIF values (related to constructs). For a reflective model, does one have to report both? Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Khabir

The inner VIF reports the VIF for the inner/structural model. You need to assess these for the interpretation of your path coefficients (i.e., collinearity among the constructs).
The outer VIF report the VIF for the outer/measurement model. You need to assess these for the interpretation of your formative constructs only. It assesses the collinearity among the indicators of a construct. For reflective indicators these values should be high and thus are not meaningful to assess.
