I know there is a big discussion about this topic. In my context the sobel test works fine (the sample was relativly large). Do you know about a study about the use of sobel test against the bootstrapping method in context of PLS? This could be very intresting.

Hey Martin, In my opinion the quote is a little bit confusing. The evaluation in a PLS model is step wise that doesn’t mean that there is a separate estimation before you test your model. You always test your model as a whole. But in the first step you only consider the measurement models. After goo...

Hey, One way to do a CFA directly in PLS is to use two constructs. For both constructs you use the same indicators. For one construct you use the items reflectively and for the other one formatively. Then you connect the formatively measured construct with the reflectively measured construct. Whereb...

To make it short, after a standardization a new standardization won't change anything.

Dear Jana, Your approach to calculate the t value for the ‘indirect effect’ seems alright. Run your bootstraps for the model and use the bootstraps (e.g. 500) for ai and bi to calculate the standard error of the indirect effect. You can do this easily with MS Excel. Multiply the 500 bootstraps for a...

Hey, In the above mention situation 2 you have reflective items in the first and second order measurement. Therefore it is not necessary to calculate VIF. It is only necessary when you use formative measurements. But you are right in the current program version of PLS you have to use e.g. SPSS for c...

Dear Yvonne,

You can ease handle that with SmartPLS. The only thing you have to do is to choose the option “Mean 0, Var 1” under the option data metric before you run the PLS algorithm. “Mean 0, Var 1” means nothing else as standardize the data.

Greetings,

Dear Cornelia, ad 1) In my opinion you should use one of the group you already have as a reference group. Think about if there is a group which can serve you as a starting point. An “interesting” group, not a catch-all like “Other” and large enough to be used across multiple studies. ad 2) You shoul...

Dear Cornelia, You are welcome! Indeed your results seems strange for me too. Maybe there is a typing error or you overlook the sign “E” at the end what means your figure is very small. Please check this once again. The results for the test of homogeneity of variances have to be between 0 and 1 beca...

There is a new download link for the above mentioned working paper (only in German) „Eine anwenderorientierte Einführung in die Partial Least Square (PLS)-Methode”:

I'm not an IT expert but I use SmartPLS on my new Sony Vaio with Windows 7 and 64 Bit System and it works fine. Maybe that statement helps a little bit to identify where the problem could be. It seems to me that SmartPLS won't work with the newest Java skript.

Hey Egon, Your measurement of the second order construct is a typ II modulation. That means, in the first order you use reflektiven measurements and in the second order you use a formative measurement. For estimate such a model you should use the suggested method by Wold which is depicted in figure ...
