I have the same problem...SmartPLS asks me to reactivate the program every time I start it on my (Win7) laptop (with some data stored on a network profile). Any suggestions for a solution?

Hi,

Uf, you're right! Looking up the literature again confirms your claim. Sorry for the confusion! Well in this case I guess it is at it is and I will have to think about a theoretical refinement of my model.

Thank you!!!

Best, Stephan

Hi Christian, Yes, I tend to agree with your argumentation. It was also my first thought that the 2nd order formative dimensions do not necessarily covariate and thus, the reflective indicators of these dimensions do not tap on the same underlying construct (and I tried 2-stage, but its downside is ...

Hi Christian, Thanks, I know the article and the argumentation. But this was not my question because Henseler and Chin argue for formative indicators and they do not mention second order constructs. However, as outlined, I have reflective indicators and a formative second order (please note that on ...

Moderation approach 1st order reflective 2nd order formative

Hi everybody, I am struggling with a tough question: I have a second order construct where the first level (=indicators) is measured reflective, and the second level is formative (three independent phases building one composite measure). I modelled this with the repeated indicator approach. I am ass...

Hi Christian, I think the explanation for this phenomenon is that the PLS-algorithm switches between the estimate for the measurement model and the structural model while iterating. If I understood the algorithm correctly, it converges to a solution when the differences between the inner and the out...

Hi Elina, c) The R2 for D does not change, because the independent variable A has no impact on it. or to be a bit more precise, it doesn't change because PLS uses a blockwise estimation procedure. Thus, if the variables are not connected, no changes in R² occur if you omit the independent variable. ...

Hi John, A good overview about the differences between reflective and formative constructs and their different evaluation can be found in: Henseler, J., Ringle, C.M., & Sinkovics, R.R. (2009). The Use of Partial Least Squares Path Modeling in International Marketing. Advances in International Ma...

Christian is right with his conclusions, although with a path coefficient of 0,677 the standard errors must be very high to prevent this result to become significant. Did you adjust the settings for sample size? You might also consider using a different sign change option: No sign changes is the mos...

Please be aware that classical test theory (with AVE, Cronbach's Alpha etc.) does not apply to formative constructs. Thus, the statistics are not included for good reason!!! Before running PLS, you might take deeper consideration about the theoretical properties of your construct and the statistical...

Hi jakesbae, Of course your IV has an R² of 0, that is why it is INDEPENDENT, which means that it is not explained by another variable (if it was a dependent variable, some of the variance [measured by R²] could be explained by another variable). I wonder why your professor is not familiar with this...

Responses in this forum decreasing?

Hello everybody, Unfortunately, to me it seems that the responses to important questions have decreased significantly over the last months in this forum. And I am wondering resp. start to get worried about this. With so many degrees of freedom in its application, I think PLS requires a steady and in...

Control variables in interaction models // Purification?

Dear all, I have two important questions I am struggling with: I have a basic interaction setting with two reflective IV's (A, B), an interaction term (AxB) and a DV (C). In addition, I have a control variable (D) that is hypothesized to have an effect on A,B and C. Now my big question is whether I ...

Hi Linda, I also tried this some time ago and I think you are right, the automatic creation of interaction terms in Smart-PLS is restricted to 2-way-interactions. But this does not hinder you in creating it manually (which by the way is quite annoying when using the product-indicator-approach becaus...
