Re: Bootstrapping Problem Calculating loadings

This problem should be diminished if you use a correction option in the bootstrap settings (e.g., construct level changes).

Chow

Hi Stefan,

I think what you are looking for is the so-called "Chow test".
You can find information on that e.g. in Gujarati (2003: Basic Econometrics).
I think there was also a paper by Bass and Wittink (JMR, 1975) on the pooling issue.

Regards,

Jörg

Group comparisons

Hi Stefan, In principle, your work around is okay. However, I would suggest you another approach: I recommend you to have a look at the literature on modeling interaction effects in linear regressions, mainly the small green booklet by Jaccard and Turrisi. They say basically that you can treatt the ...

Re: Modeling moderating effects with formative indicators

It says, that you should use PLS to create underlying construct scores for the predictor and moderator variables and then take those single composite scores to create a single interaction term. Does that mean you just export the latent variable scores of predictor LV and moderator LV to Excel, mult...

This is another area where PLS and covariance-based SEM butt heads. True latent variables or constructs don't have scores that we can measure. Do you regard "not having scores" as a constitual element of reflective constructs? If so, what about PLS path modelling using covariance matrices...

True.

However, I think it we should leave the honor to the person who first suggested this approach. Actually it was Wold (1982), who suggested to re-use the indicators. He called it "hierarchical structure".

Correlation among indicators is by no means a criterium for evaluating formative measurement models. CFA does not make any sense, because its output does not imply anything, i.e. it does not tell you anything about the reliability and validity of your formative measurement. You may want to check the...

John, how would you determine latent variable scores if not as a linear combination of indicators (whether belonging to the block in question or not)?

If your construct is reflective, you should use Mode A. If your construct is formative, you can either use Mode A or Mode B. Mode B is fine if you have no multicollinearity and/or if you to use a formative independent variable to maximize the explanation of the dependent variable. If you have multic...

You get rid of them if you use Mode PLS (only available with SPADPLS so far) or you restrict yourself in just looking at the first component of the PLS regresion - which actually is the same as mode A. If you use Mode A and report the weights instead of the loadings you are at least on step nearer t...

Formative versus reflective

John is right when he says that the direction of the arrows in PLS is not necessarily an indication of whether the measurement model is formative or reflective. Actually, Chin, Ringle and all the other developpers of GUIs for PLS Path Modeling just use the direction of the arrows to differentiate be...

Decreasing R-square when adding independent latent variables

I do not think that multicollinearity may be the reason, because although multicollinearity may give you strange path coefficients, it does not (negatively) influence the prediction of the latent variables. If you draw connections between the independent variables, the latent variable scores of the ...

GIFI

Michel Tenenhaus (from HEC) presented a model similar to yours on the PLS'03 conference in Lisbon within a PLS tutorial. It was based on GIFI data as far as I can remember. He estimated political stability of a country. He used objective, and partially dichotomous variables like e.g. "whether a...

Yes.
I recommend reading the article written by Chin/Marcolin/Newsted (2003).
